Sony has finally gone live with the Android 4.4.4 KitKat open-source kernel source files for its Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact phone on the official Sony Developer World website and Github. Weighing at 208MB, this source file is based on the firmware build 14.4.A.0.108 that was rolled out last week.

While this kernel files might be purposeless for everyday users, they can be of great use for developers who are interested in creating custom ROMs and mods for the aforementioned Xperia devices. [Read more…]

T-Mobile Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 Goes Up For Pre-Order in US

Following on the footsteps of Verizon, T-Mobile has also started taking pre-orders for the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0, becoming the second carrier network to offer this tablet in US. It is officially hitting the shelves on July 23 for a price tag of $384 off-contract.

Officially unveiled last month, Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 is built around an 8.0-inch display with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution. It is powered by quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz (based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC). Rest of the specs sheet includes 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable internal memory and 3MP rear camera. It runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS out of the box. It is backed up by a mid-range 4450 mAh battery that should provide enough juice for normal everyday usage. [Read more…]

Next-Generation Dell Venue 7 and Venue 8 FHD Tablets Visit FCC; Launching in US Soon

Dell is reportedly prepping the next iterations of its last-year’s Venue 7 & 8 Android tablets, namely Venue 7 2014 edition (T01C) and Venue 8 FHD 2014 (T02D) based on Intel Atom chip with the new Merrifield platform. Both of these tablets showed up earlier last month at Computex 2014, but for some unspecified reason, didn’t get released in Europe on the expected July 1 launch date. This time, however, they have officially got certified by FCC and are tipped for release in the US very soon.
