How to Update
Compatibility Note: Make sure you have the LON-L29 variant and it’s already on a C636 based firmware. For this procedure, you’ll need to install ADB/Fastboot and drivers on your PC first.
Step 1. Create a new folder “HWOTA” in external microSD card of your device.
Step 2. Download the firmware files provided above, rename them as mentioned (leave update.zip as is) and transfer them to the new HWOTA folder in the SD card.
Step 3. Disconnect the USB cable and power your phone off. After that re-insert the USB cable while simultaneously holding the Volume down key to enter fastboot mode
Step 4. Download the Huawei Mate 9 Pro updater tool from here and extract the HWOTA folder from the zip package to your desktop.
Step 5. Open the extracted HWOTA folder and run the update.bat file as administrator.
Step 6. The updater will ask you to reboot your phone into fastboot mode – just press Enter to proceed.
Step 7. You will now be asked to boot into TWRP mode – to do that, disconnect the USB cable and hold the power key to turn it off. Next, press & hold Volume up + Power for a couple of seconds to enter TWRP.
Once you’re in TWRP, reconnect the USB cable, wait for a couple of seconds and finally press the Enter key on your computer twice.
Step 8. For update source selection, type 1 and press the Enter key. For update type, again type 1 and press Enter twice.
Step 9. In a few seconds, your device will automatically reboot and begin update installation on the patched stock recovery.
